When the bills keep piling up and provision feels impossible, bring your desperate need to the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills.
Father, I come to You with empty hands, an overdrawn account, and a stack of bills that turns my stomach. I am scared, Lord. Scared of the phone calls from collectors, scared of the envelope I haven’t opened because I already know what’s inside, scared of telling my family that I don’t know how we’re going to make it this month.
I have tried to figure this out on my own. I have worked overtime, cut corners, and skipped meals so my kids could eat, and still there is more month than money. I have lain awake running the numbers as if the math would change at 2 a.m. The numbers don’t change, and the shame of struggling to provide sits heavy on my chest.
Lord, I know money is not Your highest concern for me, but You also know I cannot serve You well when I am drowning. You told us not to worry about what we will eat or what we will wear, and Father, I confess the worry has swallowed me. So I am bringing it all to You. The electric bill, the rent, the groceries, the medical debt, the credit card statements. You said to cast my cares on You, and these are the heaviest cares I have.
I am not asking for wealth or excess, Father. I am asking for daily bread. Enough to keep the lights on, enough to feed my children, enough to breathe again. You fed Elijah by ravens, multiplied loaves and fish, and filled the widow’s jars with oil. You are the same God today, and I am asking You to provide for my house.
Open doors that I cannot see. Bring provision from places I would never expect. Give me wisdom with what I have, and show me where to cut, where to give, and where to trust. If there is work You want me to do, lead me to it. I don’t need to understand the whole plan. Show me the next step.
And Lord, guard my heart through this season. Don’t let financial pressure wear down my marriage or make me bitter. Don’t let it convince me that my worth is tied to my bank account. My family’s security does not rest on my shoulders alone. It rests on Yours.
You are Jehovah Jireh, the God who provides, and I am choosing to trust You in the middle of this. Not because the numbers make sense, but because You are faithful to those who put their trust in You.
In the name of Jesus, who had nowhere to lay His head yet lacked nothing, I pray.
Amen.
Scripture
And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.
Philippians 4:19So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
Matthew 6:31-33Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the Lord Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it.
Malachi 3:10I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
Psalm 37:25But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today.
Deuteronomy 8:18Guidance
Step away from the bills and the budget spreadsheet. Panic makes it hard to pray honestly. Ask God to settle your heart before you speak.
Bring your finances to God in your own voice. Praying aloud is an act of faith, and it helps you lay each need honestly before Him.
Name the specific bills and the exact amounts. Name the job you need and the door you need opened. God is not overwhelmed by your numbers.
Bring this need to God each morning, and keep watch for the ways He provides.
Financial trouble tempts us to isolate. Share your need with a trusted friend or pastor, or send a request to our fellowship. Requests arrive in a private inbox, and a real person reads each one.
You have just prayed this prayer. If you would like others praying it with you, send us your request. It arrives in a private inbox, a real person reads it, and our fellowship prays over it by name.
We share first names only, and we do not set a stop date.
