For marriages strained by addiction, distance, betrayal, and hurt. What God has joined together, He can heal.
Father, I come to You for my marriage. We are in trouble, and I don’t know how to fix what’s broken between us anymore. The distance has grown so wide that some days we feel like strangers sharing a house. You see it all, Lord. The arguments that never get resolved, the silence that’s even worse than the fighting, two people who once chose each other now struggling to stay.
I confess my own part in this. I haven’t always loved the way You called me to love. I’ve kept score and held grudges. I’ve said words I can’t take back and withheld words that should have been spoken. I’ve let bitterness build until I could barely see the person I married.
But Lord, I believe You brought us together for a reason. Underneath the hurt and the damage, whether from addiction, unfaithfulness, neglect, or years of drifting apart, there is a covenant that You still honor, even when we haven’t honored it ourselves.
Soften our hearts toward each other. Remove the pride that makes us each wait for the other to go first. Give us the courage to be vulnerable again, to say “I’m sorry” and mean it, and to say “I forgive you” even when it is hard. Teach us to stand with each other instead of against each other.
If addiction has torn our home apart, Lord, bring deliverance. If lies have shattered our trust, rebuild it through the slow, patient work of Your Spirit. If we have forgotten why we chose each other, remind us. You are the God who makes dry bones live again. Breathe life into this marriage.
Protect our children from the fallout of our brokenness. Let them see us keep choosing this marriage. And on the days when neither of us has the strength to choose it, Lord, hold us together when we can’t hold each other.
I am not giving up on this marriage, and I am asking You, the Author of love, not to give up on us either.
In the name of Jesus, who loves His bride with an everlasting love, I pray.
Amen.
Scripture
Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate.
Mark 10:9Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
1 Corinthians 13:4-5Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
1 Peter 4:8Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.
Colossians 3:13Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.
Ecclesiastes 4:12Guidance
Step away from the tension. Anger makes it hard to pray honestly for your marriage. Ask God to calm your heart first.
Speak these words over your marriage. Even if your spouse isn’t in the room, God hears each word.
Use your spouse’s name. Name the specific wounds, and be honest with God about your own failures.
Marriages are not restored overnight. Pray this daily, ask God to soften both of your hearts, and trust His timing.
If you trust a friend, a pastor, or a counselor, ask them to pray with you. You can also request prayer from our fellowship. A real person reads each request that comes in.
You have just prayed this prayer. If you would like others praying it with you, send us your request. It arrives in a private inbox, a real person reads it, and our fellowship prays over it by name.
We share first names only, and we do not set a stop date.
