Prayer for My Children

Cover your sons and daughters in prayer. For their protection, their hearts, their future, and their freedom.

Heavenly Father, these children are not really mine — they are Yours. You formed them. You breathed life into their lungs. You numbered their days before a single one came to be. And You entrusted them to me, knowing full well that I would not do this perfectly. So I come to You now, not as a perfect parent, but as a desperate one, asking You to do for my children what I cannot do on my own.

Protect them, Lord. In a world that is loud and confusing and dangerous, put a hedge of protection around their bodies, their minds, and their hearts. Guard them from the predators they cannot see coming. Guard them from the influences that would pull them away from You. Guard them from the lies the world will tell them about who they are and what they're worth.

If addiction has touched our home — if they have watched a parent drink, if they have seen things no child should see, if they have laid in bed at night listening to fighting and chaos — Lord, heal those wounds. Do not let the cycle repeat. Break the generational chains right here, right now. Let the dysfunction end with this generation. Let my children walk free from the bondage that held me captive.

Give them hearts that seek after You. Not because I forced them, not because religion was a performance in our house, but because they genuinely encounter Your love and can't help but respond to it. Let them know You as Father — not as a distant, angry God, but as the One who delights in them, who sings over them, who would leave the ninety-nine to come after the one.

When they are lonely, be their friend. When they are scared, be their courage. When peer pressure pushes them toward destruction — toward the bottle, toward the pill, toward the crowd that doesn't care about their soul — give them the strength to walk the other way. Put friends in their path who will lift them up, not drag them down.

For my older children who are already walking through hard seasons — the ones who may already be experimenting, already hurting, already pulling away — Lord, pursue them. Don't let them go. You are the Good Shepherd, and I'm asking You to go after them even when they are running from You. Even when they are running from me.

And Father, make me the parent they need. Heal the ways I have failed them. Give me patience when I want to react. Give me wisdom when I don't know what to say. Help me to be present — truly present — because the years are short and I've already wasted too many of them.

I place my children in Your hands. They were always safest there.

In the name of Jesus, who said "let the little children come to me," I pray.

Amen.
